Planning
For this reading week task I chose a topic from the outline of the proposed book the topic that I chose was 'Chapter Narrative and Agency'. After I chose this topic I then looked at the research topic checklist and found a subtopic that fit in with my topic which is Ludonarrative Dissonance which is the conflict told through the story and the gameplay of the player. I then started to narrow the scope of my topic by looking at the Who, What, Where, When, Why of the topic which helped me a lot as I looked who was the playing the games where ludonarrative dissonance occurred, what happened to the game when they played it and what outcome it would have. I looked at where it would lead them in the game, I looked at when they played the game would their opinion change and decide on something else. Then finally I looked at why people made the choices in their games.
It also helped greatly with the chart as it gives me a sense on where to start and begin planning on the next stage.
Then onto moving onto step two by reading the research topic checklist I can say that all the questions I could answer with yes as I know where to start and I believe there's enough information on it and I know where to begin and believe that I can start researching the topic further and begin straight away.
While I will start to begin on the matrix and keep track of my research as each week goes on so that I have everything together.
Below are three links that I found interest in and give a bigger meaning of the words ludonarrative dissonance
With each of these links you can see it explains it in much further details and gives examples of where you can see this in a game such as 'Bioshock' which if you played you may remember with the little sisters where you can take their power and progress further or you can save the little sisters but will not gain as much power it creates a conflict in the game for the player.
