Game Stories

Image
Game Stories While reading the first article on 'What Every Game Developer Needs To Know About Story' I found it very interesting on how it talked about common misrepresentation on games saying "Story is Dialog" and "Story doesn't matter". This meaning at how that the dialog is the story in a game and also that story doesn't matter in a game when it really does matter. While reading further on and how it talked of classical stories work so well with it starting with a hero and his or her world being thrown out of order I thought of 'The Last Of Us' and at how it followed the same structure. Game Storyboard While reading the second piece of reading I liked at how it talks of narrative in a game and that while it has developed so much over the years it is also very quite tricky to get it right also, as it has a lot of implications to it such as cultural. I didn't realise at how it has been developing with the games along the way and throug

Alpha

Image
Alpha While working on the alpha of my website I have ran into some problems such as my player falling through the floor but managed to fix this by un clicking the Is Kinematic button the ground's Rigidbody. This helped greatly and I managed to solve the problem then, I ran into some other C# script problems but managed to get around them and get them all working together and fine which worked out greatly for my game and is working well at the minute. My Own Unity Game While trying to see the targets I'm a bit behind work wise and struggling a bit to get to meet the deadlines with the work I'm getting around to it and will need to catch up a bit and work some more but I'm in a good place at the minute and is working well.

Unity Tutorial 08

Image
Unity Tutorial 08 While working on Unity Tutorial 08 I found it easy to follow and found was fine with doing it the only problems that I ran into were at the start with the private tags in the spawn manager c# scripts which I managed to fix but Im not sure exactly how I managed to fix it though which is a problem for another day. I found the overall unity fun and easy to use and managed to get it all done and complete and found the game rather fun to play by the end by dodging the random enemies that spawn into the game and dodging them one by one very fun to do and complete. I look forward to the future unity tutorials that I can complete and work on. My Own Unity Image

Review Week Comments and Feedback

Image
Review Week Comments and Feedback I would say that overall the comments that I have received off other students are helpful and good as by looking at them I can improve on my game and learn from the comments of other students and then I can say to myself oh how can I do that better then it already is. They are also very good in the sense that I can push myself and gives me some motivation and that I know I'm doing something right and am on the right path. While a lot of comments are good the ones that really stand out are the ones that critique my work which I like and are telling me at how I could improve in certain manners and could do something better in that way, these are the comments that really help and that I learn from.  I would say that the comments that I'm giving out to other people in my year are good its good to get to know other peoples ideas and learn from them and seeing on how I could improve further. I rather enjoy reading other peoples blogs as well as the

First Playable

Image
First Playable  While working on my first playable it was simple enough a bit challenging just need to add some more scripts and have to fix the player running forward but I'm getting there some challenges have come up and will be a challenge in the weeks ahead and will have to get some graphics for the game but is looking basic enough at the minute and is a bit challenging not having someone telling you that to do but hopefully all goes well.

Unity Tutorial 07

Image
Unity Tutorial 07 For Unity Tutorial 07 I started working on and seemed to find it a lot easier then the other weeks flowed a lot easier and while working on it at the start I enjoyed making it and was fun to move the ball and used previous skills from other weeks like creating the scripts such as Player Controller and then a new Script called Focal Point. I also got to add a previous skill form my project last week which was add a material to it. While I found it easy enough one thing I did notice was for the first video section on part 6 in 4.1 I didn't see much difference in the game from adding in the code and my game did work though would not pay at time for when I clicked into game mode and clicked my mouse keys and nothing changed which was strange but eventually changed.  While working on the other parts it was simple enough and had no other real problems and was a bit confused when he started to talk about the Void and Vector 3 but other then that I had no other real prob

Week 9 Reading and Writing

Image
Week 9 Reading and Writing Looking back on all my overall reading blog posts I can say overall I rather enjoyed learning about new topics and materials like for an example I had no idea what a Game Design Document was before I started this module and what it was used for but now I know what its used for and exactly how its used and what its function is. Other new topics that I learned were that of a Growth Mindset and how it worked and really liked learning of how it works. I also enjoyed using blogger as well as I could put into my own words of what I thought of everything that I've done and at how I can add in my own style of writing and thoughts and can learn from mistakes and take on advice from classmates such as with my Game Project blogs where people would tell me on what I can improve on at how I could have done something better which I appreciate greatly. I also learned of Game Design, Game Elements, Games MDA, Game Decisions and Game Fun. All these have really helped wit

Game Fun

Image
Game Fun While reading week eights readings I found the first reading interesting on how it talked about fun in a game and I liked at how it refers to a game like an older brother and someone that you look up to such as I did watching my brother playing video games. I liked at how it talked of how fun can be done in different ways and how fun can be seen differently by different people. I didn't really think about fun in a game I just enjoyed playing them I didn't realise the elements to fun and how it talks that there are eight different kinds of fun which can be seen below.  Fun In Games While reading the second document I found it delved into more detail on the fun experienced in games and at how it can be enjoyed more and more and at how it looks at the social aspects of games and although this seems to mainly refer to video games we can see at how the socials aspects help in both playing video games and playing games like kirb's as kids or squares with a football whic

Prototype

Image
Prototype From working on my game document and from looking at the comments from my blog on previous posts from I worked on some things and found a clear path to my full game having seen some aspects of my game that I could work and by looking over my game design document I found elements that could be changed and believe now that after this week that I can finally work on my game and finally make a start and get my ideas finally on screen and begin.  From working on my game some elements that I'm finding difficult and need working on is that of looking back over the Unity videos that I watched like Unity 1.1 for example which I took a lot of inspiration from. In these videos it talks about at how to get the basics and from rewatching these videos I was unsure exactly on how to start as with them i'm given the files to work with while with mine I'm starting from scratch and need to have my own graphics which I was unsure on where to get them from.  My Own Image Unity Tutor

Unity Tutorial 06

Image
Unity Tutorial 06 While working on Unity Tutorial 06 I could not seem to open the animation previews at the start or through as I got yellow warnings from it though the other parts of unity worked itself and worked fine. Like the start I found it quite cool at how you could change the speed of your character and put it into a running speed and it worked quite well and enjoyed working on it. I feel like from working on this weeks tutorial that it is more life like and real and reminds me of Temple Run more and more. My Own Unity Tutorial 06 I really enjoyed adding in the effects like the explosion and the other parts such as mud while running and at how the play into one another like when you jump over the obstacles the mud stops which had to be put through by editing our c# scripts in the Player Controller. I enjoyed adding an audio source and adding music to the game and making it feel more realistic and playable. While working on the final piece of the unity tutorial I found it quit

Game Decisions

Image
Game Decisions  While reading the articles and video for week 7 readings I found it interesting in the first reading about how it takes time to learn new skills and at how like photoshop it takes 12 months for a basic level while this can be seen the same way in apps while in games you can become a lot better a lot sooner. It talks of how complex apps can be while with games you can lose a certain feature and it makes it a-lot simpler task at hand that must be complete and you find it easy to understand and can achieve it. This made me think a lot about myself playing games and using apps as when I played games I enjoy it and although it may frustrate me at times I learn and keep on playing while with apps I see that it not only takes a long time but you've to follow a boring video and for example photoshop in particular if your using that and its not working it'll takes ages for you to learn as your constantly getting frustrated at it.  Learned Skills In A Game While reading

Game Design Document

Image
Game Design Document While working on my Game Design Document I have a clearer idea on my game and know exactly what I want to create and know what I want to do, as before I wasn't too sure about my idea but I enjoyed creating the Game Design Document and look forward to creating my game in Unity. I hope to learn more through the Unity tutorials and learn exactly what I need to do before I start my own game. Some ideas I had were adding elements into my game like dodging obstacles instead of jumping over and having to duck from threats and so on. I hope to add in a health bar in my game where you have five lives, in this then you can collect and eat food and reagin health throughout the game by doing this. Though when you lose you health it is game over. Below I've also drawn some concept art for my game such as the title and characters that I could try ad into the future: . Unity Tutorial 05

Image
Unity Tutorial 05 While working on the unity tutorial for week 6 I found it quite similar to the unity tutorial 5 that we had over the reading week. I have learned new code for the C# script and am still enjoying creating and working on the game and is beginning to remind me of games like Temple Run or Subway Surfers which I used to love playing growing up and hope to have my game as 3d endless runner game as well. I liked when they began to make the background endless that he didn't duplicate and make it take ages but he found a simpler version and used it and works really well. I also enjoyed adding the part at when you hit an obstacle the whole game starts I really enjoyed this as it gave a feel to the game and added a point to the game and gave some context to it as the game finally had a game over and not just words came up but it had a start and finish to it and felt like a full game to me. Unity Tutorial 04

Image
Unity Tutorial 04 While working on the final part of 2.4 of Unity I completed the final step of the animal food fight and ran through it fairly simply and had no real problems and I seem to understand unity a bit better now and hope to get better as the weeks come along, I also enjoyed learning on how to make the animals disappear and it felt like I completed a full game rather then just driving a car.  I also began to work on the play catch work in unity and found it somewhat difficult to do and although I got some pieces to work others I did not get to work. While now this I can improve on and hopefully get it working better and learn from this.                                                                  My Own Unity Work I also began work on the unit 3.1 and managed to get it simply enough I learned new c# code such as Bool and got to the the gravity methods that I created in unity. I really enjoyed doing this part and liked it just as much or even better then Unity feed the a

Unity Tutorial 03

Image
Unity Tutorial 03 While working on Unity for tutorial 03 I found it a lot easier to work on and knew my way around unity and I could work along with the videos rather than having to stop and start again and again which helped out greatly. This time it worked easier for myself and I knew my way around and the scripts became easier and rather enjoyed working and choosing what animals I wanted in the tutorial and so on.  While each part had its problems like for part 2.2 I struggled somewhat on how to get my code for C# Sharp just right and took me a while to figure it out. Although I struggled on parts of this it was easier then the car and hope to get used to Unity more and more and flew through the last part of the section in 2.3. I hope to improve on Unity as the time goes bye and am finding it easier using C# and seem to be getting the hang of it I also rather enjoyed the last section and being able to spawn more animals into the game and rather enjoyed making it all together and fou

Games GDD

Image
Games GDD While reading the first article on 'Communication and Game Design Documents' and on how game documents have a bad reputation and that not all the information and detail required can be fit into a single document for a game. It tells us at important keys needed for this such as it says 'Memory Aid' and 'Communication Tool' these are both important as you may forget your early concepts and also you'll be working as a team so you'll need to communicate with people. With a game design doc there are many parts to it which can be seen below here are a few examples 'Game Design Overview' and 'Game Design Doc'. These doc are well thought out and are designed for particular people and reasons like 'Know your target'. We see that these documents have to be well thought out and done in certain ways and take a lot of time to be done right.  The second article I read is that of 'How to Write a Game Design Document'. In this
