Game Vision Statement
Game Vision Statement
On my four game ideas from last weeks Multimedia development the one idea that stuck out to me most was my first idea that came to mind which is an endless runner game and hope to add the them of my fourth idea to it.
I believe that my game idea stands in the game genre of platform games which started in the nineties from games like 'Super Mario' and progressed on further to such games as 'Jetpack Joyride'. A lot of these games are in 2d but I am going to have it in 3D. This games in these genres each have their own specific theme to it as such like 'Super Mario' has is its own in the sense that he jumps and moves and can get powers and has to save the princess.
With the gameplay of my idea i'd be hoping to have it somewhat similar to the likes of 'Temple Run' or 'Subway Surfers' having a 3D perspective of the player running endlessly and being able to get power ups and having to dodge certain obstacles to do with the theme of my game. For the theme of my game I hope to have the main runner as a worm and having it underground in the soil. They would have to avoid obstacles such as rocks roots and have to avoid predators such as birds and moles and so on though this might be beyond my capability with unity. With my game I hope to have five lives for the main runner as it is a worm and a worm has five hearts. While I've been using Unity the lessons that I've learned in Unity so far in the lessons I could hopefully incorporate into my game and could hopefully incorporate more lessons into my game as the Unity lessons continue. Ive also been told that for the Unity that unit two will help a lot with my idea and hopefully get more out of Unity with completing these lessons and can incorporate them into my game idea.
While looking for resources to do with developing games what I found was different Game development applications such as I've mentioned before Unity and others such as 'GameMaker', 'Construct' and others like 'Stencyl'. I also found some editors that could be helpful and useful in the up and coming weeks whether we'll be using them or not but still could come in handy. Here are some editors I found such as 'Sublime text 2', 'Notepad++' and 'Microsoft Visual Studio'. You could also use tools such as 'Audacity' for editing and recording sound and others tools like Blender.
While researching about my game ideas some articles that I found interesting and that I could hopefully incorporate in the future of my game design are that how popular Platform Games are nowadays as we see with certain games. We see with games such as Crash Bandicoot and at how that started out on the Playstation 2 and how it just got a new game there on Playstation 4 and 5 called 'Crash Bandicoot: Its About Time' this showed at how popular Platform games can be whether its 2D or 3D. I found it interesting at how game developer continue to push the boundaries of these games such as we seen with the new 'Crash Bandicoot' which put its predecessor the 'n'sane trilogy' back on the map getting a remaster and showed one again at how they're on the rise once again.
Platform Games are on the rise
Another article that I found on Platform games is that of features on platform games and learned something new as I haven't played a platform game in a while and learned new game features from it. Some features that the article listed was the interactive environment around you to challenge as you as you go along such as obstacles like a rock. Another feature that it lists is the controlled jumping and features like horizontal and vertical moving. Another final feature is the third person perspective that you see in the likes of a 3D platform game like 'Temple Run' and Crash Bandicoot as we see the player from a horizontal angle from above. These features all make up the components of a Platform game and show at how they can be different and similar to other platform games with the rest.
Hi Samuel
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised how you thought about your game in such detail. I am getting a very clear idea what you want to achieve in your game and how it will be played by the player.
I can't believe I did not know that a worm has 5 hearts! I have to confess- i checked google if its true lol
I have a funny image of the worm running and avoiding birds and I am wondering what would be the goal of the game? Is it to collect some particular number of points or to reach some specific place?
I think your game idea is good, the running games never get old, but I am wondering what is the reason for the worm to get above the ground and risk getting caught by birds? Maybe there could be some source of collecting power?
Hey Samuel I love the games you took inspiration from, they were so iconic, I too am making an endless runner for my game and these big titles like subway surfers and temple run have been huge inspirations to be too I'm excited to see where you go with this game keep up the good work
