Games GDD

 Games GDD

While reading the first article on 'Communication and Game Design Documents' and on how game documents have a bad reputation and that not all the information and detail required can be fit into a single document for a game. It tells us at important keys needed for this such as it says 'Memory Aid' and 'Communication Tool' these are both important as you may forget your early concepts and also you'll be working as a team so you'll need to communicate with people. With a game design doc there are many parts to it which can be seen below here are a few examples 'Game Design Overview' and 'Game Design Doc'. These doc are well thought out and are designed for particular people and reasons like 'Know your target'. We see that these documents have to be well thought out and done in certain ways and take a lot of time to be done right.

The second article I read is that of 'How to Write a Game Design Document'. In this article it tells me on how to start a game design doc and what needs to be done and at how the mechanics need to be written first and while reading this article I wouldn't have known where to start and have learned something new as I never heard of a 'Game Design Document' before today. It talks of the first thing to do is what best describes your game and how to keep it clear and precise on each mechanic and design association. It also gives a basic understanding of what your game could be as it gives the description and does this with all the aspects of the game like description, characters and so on.

For the third part of Reading week 6 we watched a video discussing the need for GDD and on why it's important. While watching the YouTube video it went through a basic games document talking about it and going through each section in detail for example it talks through the summary of the game and what it's about and what the player must do.
